Porchlight 2026

What a night! Armed with little more than cardboard boxes, sleeping bags, determination, and perhaps a questionable amount of campfire stew, members from across 1st Brenchley & Matfield Scout Group braved the elements for the Kent Scouts Porchlight Sleepout. The event, organised by our fantastic Young Leader Immy, saw our young people and leaders give up the comfort of their beds for one night to help raise awareness of homelessness and support the incredible work of Porchlight.

The evening was filled with fun, friendship, fundraising, and a powerful reminder of why the event matters. As our cardboard city took shape and the temperatures dropped, we experienced just a tiny glimpse of the challenges faced by people who do not have the security of a warm home. It certainly gave us all something to think about.

We're incredibly proud of everyone who took part. From helping with the fundraising activities to setting up sleeping spaces and supporting one another throughout the night, our Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Young Leaders, volunteers, and families showed exactly what the Scout values are all about: caring for others and making a positive difference in our community.

However, our mission is not over yet!

We are still appealing for donations to help us reach our fundraising goal and support Porchlight's vital work helping people facing homelessness across Kent. Every pound donated will help make a real difference. Whether it's the cost of a coffee, a lunch, or a little more, every contribution adds up and is hugely appreciated.
